Next up will be the toughest tournament Rapids will be in this year. The Clash is a 32 team, team tournament. Some of the best teams in the country will be there and the Raiders will need our support. Let's show the rest of the country what Rapids pride is all about. Fri & Sat. Jan. 2 & 3 Away The Clash - National High School Duals. Rochester, MN In order to compete in a tournment like the this, a team must be on top of it's game. All 32 teams were very good, but not all 32 teams were truly on top of their game. Unfortunately the Red Raiders were one of those team that really didn't wrestle all that well. The losses that Rapids took were very close with many matches that could have easily gone either way. Most of the meets resulted in 7 wins a piece which means that extra points meant everything and those extra points were tough to come by all weekend. Day 1 Results
These results put the Red Raiders into Division 7 for Day 2. The following show the results of the 4 team round robin tournament.
Fri & Sat. Jan 9 & 10 Away Cheesehead Kaukauna 7:00 p.m./9:00 a.m. I think most of you would agree with me when I say that last weekend the Red Raiders really didn't wrestle all that well. I don't now what the coaching staff said to change things over the last week, but whatever it was it worked in a big way. This week, as opposed to last week, the Red Raiders were on top of their game as they crowned 4 Cheesehead champions and blew out the rest of the competition by well over 100 points. Rapids amassed 649 points to take first. Last week both Mineral Point and Luxemburg Casco finished well ahead of Rapids at The Clash. This week Mineral Point was a distant second with 516 points and Luxemburg Casco racked up 508.5 points to take fourth. Montini Catholic is the 18th ranked team in the country and managed a third place finish with 509.5 points. Wausau West did a good job by finishing fifth with with 498.5 points. Bi-State Champion Hartland Arrowhead finished sixth with 490 points. Wrightstown finished seventh with 487.5 points. Seymour was eighth with 477.5 points. Number two ranked Stoughton finished with 448 points while the host team, Kaukauna, finished tenth with 428.5 points. Former Rapids wrestler, Justin Tritz did an amazing job at creating software and a web site to track wrestling results from around the state. Hopefully all tournament organizers will start using his software to help reduce paper work and let the fans track wrestling results when they are unable to attend a particular tournament. The following is taken from Justin's site and will give you an idea of what he has done with this software. It helps too that it makes my job easier by not having to re-type the results of every match. If you haven't experienced Justin's site, be sure to check it out. If you are organizing a tournament please consider using Justin's software. From what I've seen it's well worth every penny and you will make fans from around the world very happy. Check out the site here---->http://www.trackwrestling.com 103 - Josh Chappa's place is 5th and he has
scored 43.00 team points. 112 - Josh Hansen's place is 1st and he has

Elliot then came back to beat Kyle Hoffman 3-1 but Elliot's previous opponent, Vanderveren, lost to Jarod Hart. This meant Elliot had to settle for third. Steve Virgil was pinned by Bret Oswald in the opening round and did not qualify for State. Thurs. Fri. & Sat. Feb. 26, 27, and 28 Individual State @ Kohl Center in Madison. TBA . Round 1 of the State Tournament is in the books. Four Red Raiders are moving on to the semi-finals. Josh Hansen, Nikk Leggett, Kevin Tritz and Ben Casper are all moving on. Josh Chappa was defeated by Brian Ciszewski from West Allis Central in OT. Ciszewski won his next match which means that Josh will get a wrestle back. Josh Hansen beat Matt Hager from Wausau West 8-0 and Ryan Strong from Whitnall 5-0 to get to the semis. Andy Casper lost to unbeaten Justin Wickersham from Beaver Dam 11-9. Wickersham then went on to lose his next match thus eliminating Andy from the tournament. Matt Redepenning met a similar fate as he lost to Matt Bourgeous from Hartford 3-1 and will not get a wrestle back. Nikk Leggett beat Andy Simmons from South Milwaukee 11-2 and then went on to beat Paul Steinbrecher from West Allis Central 4-2 to earn a spot in the semis. Dane Thompson was defeated by Ryan Lampe from Oak Creek 3-2. Lampe went on to lose his next match to eliminate Dane from this weekend's competition. Day Two State Individual Wrestling Tournament Josh Chappa won his match when Franklin's Matt Kortes decided not to wrestle. Josh needs one more win to get into the fifth place match. Clint Weiler dropped a 12-4 decision to Fon du lac's Jose Deleon and has been eliminated. For those that like keeping score, Rapids would be way out in front with 47 team points. Hartland Arrowhead would be second with 34 followed closely by several teams. In the evening session the Red Raiders continued their winning ways. Three Raider wrestlers will be in the finals tomorrow night while one will be going for third. Josh Hansen beat Tim Costigan from West Allis Hale 3-0 and will face Casey Schmitz (33-2) from Sauk Prairie for first. Nikk Leggett was defeated by WVC foe Nate Gilling from DC Everest 9-3 and will now face Kaukana's Jeremiah Reffke (35-3) for third. Kevin Tritz beat Watertown's Aaron Abel 9-2 and will move on to wrestle Ben Chapman (39-0) from plymouth for first. Ben Casper beat Kent Kolpin from Plymouth 6-5 and will face Eddie Blumenthal (47-0) from Stoughton for first place. Day three of the State Individual Wrestling Tournament started with Josh Chappa beating Tony Madigan from Waunakee 5-2 to move into the fifth place match with Wake Lorenz from La Crosse Logan. Josh took sixth by losing that match 16-4. Nikk Leggett faced Jeremiah Reffke from Kaukauna for third. Nikk had to settle for fourth as he lost his match with Reffke 14-9. In the finals Josh Hansen became a two time State Champion when he beat Casey Schmitz from Sauk Prairie 9-5. Josh joined a very elite group of former Rapids wrestlers. Names like Rocky Biegel, Jim Hamel, Jere Hamel and Travis Tritz when he became only the fifth Raider wrestler to win two State Titles. Josh has another year to go too. Last year kevin Tritz faced Ben Chapman and beat him in OT to place fifth. This time things didn't go quite the way Kevin had hoped. Kevin had to settle for second when he was defeated by Plymouth's Ben Chapman 4-2 and will have to wait another year to claim a state title. Ben Casper had the tough task of facing top ranked and undefeated Eddie Blumenthal from Stoughton. If you remember back to the Cheesehead these two fierce competitors faced off with Blumenthal winning that one 8-4. This time around Blumenthal won on an injury default and Ben had to settle for second. At this point I'm not sure about point totals. I'm pretty sure Rapids would have scored the most. If any of you kept track please let me know. Not that it really matters, it's just fun to know. Fri. & Sat.
